Let’s explore what the costs of living will be when studying in the Netherlands. An average student’s budget in the Netherlands is around €1,000 per month. This excludes student fees, which are between €2,000 and €2,500 a year. However, keep in mind that you are an international and probably want to explore some of the countries exciting sights. So it may be worthwhile to add some money for extras from time to time. In the €1,000, there is taken into account the rent (€350 – €550), food (+/- €200), study material (+/-€60), as well as public transport, mobile and a bit of fun (+/- €300). In most student cities student life is quite rich, so if you enjoy visiting pubs and concerts from time to time you might need some more than €300 a month. Health insurance is around €100 a month, but you most certainly are entitled to an allowance, which most of the times brings the cost for health insurance down to €0.
